Dedicated to our friend and former Digital Gallery Director -
 For all he has done on DA and especially in the digital galleries. He was an admirable GD, and his selfless journals are inspiring to this day. I have created this image, paralleling the life of a Phoenix (corny I know) to Aeires' tenure so far on the site. One stage of his long journey has ended, but another is beginning  - - - - - - see detail at 65% size - [link] - - - - - - A little about Phoenix myth . . . In ancient Egyptian mythology, the Phoenix is said to live for 500 years and is a bird with beautiful gold and red plumage. At the end of its life-cycle it builds itself a nest of cinnamon twigs that it then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young Phoenix arises. The new Phoenix embalms the ashes of the old Phoenix and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis ("the city of the sun"). It seems appropriate to me. Aeires put a lot of work into DA and into mastering his fractals long before people like me even joined the site. Much respect is due. And after what might have seemed like 500 years, his former self has ignited, fallen to ashes, and a new Aeires is born  Also, if you look in the center of the image, that is meant to be the gates to "the city of the sun". As a side note, his deviation "Technocracy" was one of the first fractals I ever saw. Truly inspirational - [link] Thanks for all you've done Jeff!
